The DGG Team Trophy

As part of the 42nd Annual Conference of the DGG in 2026 in Frankfurt am Main, the competition for the DGG Team Trophy took place for the first time. This new format is designed to promote teamwork, speed, clinical reasoning and surgical skill in a fun and engaging way. In 2026, five hospital teams competed against each other in three rounds.

The teams

Each team consists of a senior consultant or a doctor in a senior position, a specialist, and a junior doctor.

The rounds of the game

1. Buzzer Battle

20 quick-fire questions on the topics of anatomy & physiology | pharmacology & clinical guidelines

2. Multiple-choice

20 multiple-choice questions on the topics of imaging & findings | Curiosities & history

3. Practical Challenge

The teams carry out a procedure on the endovascular simulator and an open vascular surgery procedure on a model. Each team must complete both stations. Only the junior doctor is permitted to perform the procedure. The others assist and coach them through the process.

The result

In the Practical Challenge, the judging panel assesses speed, stitching technique and watertightness, as well as communication and mutual support within the teams. The points the teams have accumulated from rounds 1 and 2 are then added together. The team with the most points gets to take home the DGG Team Trophy.
