Allied Health Professionals
The DGG offers two continuing education courses through its Private Academy DGG gGmbH:
Further Training to Become a Vascular Assistant
Without assistance and care, nothing works in vascular surgery (or in medicine in general): in the operating theatre, on the wards, in the outpatient clinic, medical staff everywhere depend on assistance. When assistants and carers have specialist knowledge, teamwork runs even more smoothly and the quality of care improves.
The German Society for Vascular Surgery and Vascular Medicine recognised this early on and, in 2006, became the first professional association to offer in-depth further training for medical assistants and nurses, coordinated by the DGG Private Academy.
The DGG Vascular and Endovascular Assistance Section, which was founded for this purpose, has developed a corresponding, structured training and further education programme and defined the new professional qualification "DGG® Vascular Assistant". A DGG® vascular assistant, like a DGG® endovascular assistant, reports to the vascular surgeon in all organisational and technical matters and acts on medical instructions. All information on vascular surgery training for assistant professions can be found on the website of the DGG Private Academy.
Further Training to Become an Endovascular Assistant
This one-year, part-time continuing education programme is aimed at surgical technicians (OTA) / surgical nurses and/or medical-technical radiology assistants (MTRA), nurses, medical functional assistants and vascular assistants DGG, provided they have proven surgical experience.
The training content includes the physiology and pathophysiology of the vascular system, diseases of the arteries and veins, vascular surgical procedures, hygiene and wound treatment in the operating theatre, preparation and follow-up care of patients in the operating theatre, intraoperative patient care and monitoring, knowledge of materials, radiation protection and contrast agent safety, and documentation, including image processing of the interventions. Detailed information can be found on the website of the Private Academy DGG.
The DGG Vascular and Endovascular Assistance Section has developed a corresponding, structured training and further education programme and defined the new professional qualification "Endovascular Assistant DGG®". Like a DGG® vascular assistant, a DGG® endovascular assistant reports to the vascular surgeon in all organisational and technical matters and acts on medical instructions. All information on vascular surgery training for assistant professions can be found on the website of the Private Academy DGG.
