Basic Position of the DGG
Diversity and democracy, equality and freedom are essential values for us. The medical profession is a free one because we are free from instructions and bound only by medical standards, choosing the best treatment for our patients regardless of their skin colour, origin, sexual orientation, religious affiliation, preferences or political views. The same applies to our colleagues: doctors, nurses and nursing assistants, administration and management – the diversity of these people and their experiences is what makes good medicine possible in the first place.
Morality and ethics, cosmopolitanism and empathy, interdisciplinary dialogue and global cooperation offer the best opportunities to advance science and research and ensure effective medical care for all who need it and with all who want to and can contribute to it. History and current crises teach us how much the functionality and resilience of our healthcare system depend on the people who support it. We unconditionally stand up for our democracy, which protects the freedom and fundamental rights of us all.
